On a Wing and a Prayer

"Carpe diem" is an expression that some have characterized as "unchristian." But why? Let's seize the day, seize the moment - for the sake of the Name. We heard the knock on our door via e-mails to "Come" to Haiti, then within hours we heard a sermon telling us, "Go. Seize the day!" Neither one of these calls came with our name on them, and yet, the Holy Spirit was clearly calling us by name. I confess that the number of occasions I have already neglected is grievous.

On the Lord's Day we decided to seize the day, and by Wednesday morning Brian and I will be en route to the Dominican Republic in order to make our way to join Touch Global (EFCA) workers near Port-au-Prince. We have committed to spending one month to serve as needed.

As we scurry about preparing for this last-minute trip, I am intensely aware of the awesome Body of Christ!
Those who have ministered in the past and left a part of their hearts with the Haitian people. Those who are on the ground now, serving obediently, tirelessly, skillfully, sacrificially.
Those who wish they could go because the Lord has also moved their hearts to compassion but are unable.
Those precious Haitian brothers and sisters who must persevere and hold fast to the Living Hope.
Those whom the Lord will call to serve in the future of blessing for Haiti.
Those who already praying (all of the above?)
Such a great cloud of witnesses!
We stand in awe of our great and gracious heavenly Father, who does not wish that any should perish...

To be honest we cannot even tell you what or how to pray. Just pray in the Spirit. This whole thing must be in reliance on the Spirit. We do not go alone; we take so many with us for the sake of the Name. May we bring many with us to Him.
