Haiti Day 2

It is humbling to sit in the midst of 700 Haitians in a Sunday morning service. In a country that doesn’t really work in the best of times, two weeks after the worst disaster in their history, smiles come easily again, joy exudes in their energetic worship, and daily life is getting back to normal. What do we have to bring to people who are able to surmount these kinds of obstacles with grace? There are many parts of it that aren’t pretty…the price gouging, the gangs, but the fact is that many of us are coming to Haiti because WE need our Haitian brothers and sisters. And they need us, too. I spoke with several of these teenagers at Tom’s house today (Jesus in Haiti Ministries). They expressed genuine gratitude for our presence. They are pleasant, polite, and just want to have as much contact as possible with Christian role models. Pray for us as we try to invest in this group of young Haitian believers, the future of the Church here, and the country. We are going to be spending more time with the Jesus in Haiti Ministries this week.

TouchGlobal would like to establish some kind of guest house for the long term work we would like to do in Haiti. A house located on the west side of Port-au-Prince would allow us to be close enough to the airport, JIH Ministries, and some work that is going on west of PaP. We looked at this house today and are praying about renting it to set up for ministry. What do you think?

Just a couple more snapshots from today: You'll recognize the ruins of the presidential palace in downtown Port-au-Prince. The scale of devastation is difficult to take in, especially in the center of the city. Just across the street from that powerful image, just under the equestrian statue of the country's first president, a tent city of homeless people has sprung up,one of the hundreds. A huge job of rebuilding is in order here.
